This one-day hybrid event will bring users, staff, and partners together to celebrate the rich and diverse science enabled by the CLS, and the researchers behind that work. In-person activities will be held in W.P. Thompson 106, with all sessions live-streamed for virtual participants.

Conferences

CMA Conference 2026

Sept 13-17, 2026 (Saskatoon)

The Canadian Mineral Analysts (CMA) 2026 conference will be co-hosted by the Canadian Light Source and the Saskatchewan Research Council. Early bird registration closes June 1.

Workshops and Schools

MX Data Collection School | 13th Edition

May 19 - June 5, 2026 | This hybrid MX school is a focused training program in Macromolecular Crystallography (MX) hosted by the Canadian Light Source (CLS) and the Canadian Macromolecular Crystallography Facility (CMCF). It is designed to guide participants through the full experimental pipeline, from sample preparation and data collection at a synchrotron beamline to data processing, with close support from experienced mentors.

Introduction to X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy and Microprobe Workshop | 3rd Annual

July 8-10, 2026 | This course serves as an introduction to the application of X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS), with a focus on materials research. Attendees will get first-hand experience in XAS data analysis (data reduction, processing and interpretation). They will learn from experts in the field, with a combination of hands-on training, lectures, and Q&A sessions. Specific sessions will include: X-ray spectroscopy principles and applications; X-ray fluorescence imaging and microanalysis; hands-on experience with XAS data handling, processing, visualization, and analysis; and, tours of the BioXAS, SXRMB, IDEAS, and SGM beamlines.

XRD Summer School 2026 | Canadian Powder Diffraction Workshop 19

July 13 - 16, 2026 | Merged with the Canadian Powder Diffraction Workshop 19, this year's XRD Summer School will be held at the University of Saskatchewan. The school will include topics such as X-Ray diffraction, instrumentation, phase identification, Rietveld refinement, structure solution, pair distribution function, small angle x-ray scattering and in-situ experiments. We will have lectures, hands on data analysis sessions, and experiments at the beamlines.

Seminars

About once a month, the CLS organizes seminars that are both held onsite and shared live online. Subscribe to our seminar newsletter to receive notifications about upcoming seminars. These events usually feature scientists sharing their synchrotron research.
